NARRATIVE
My first dog was a beagle, affectionately named Poochie.
As a child, I recall my father saying to me ‘Hang on Snoopy,’ only to realize (as I grew older) that he was actually referring to the song “Hang on Sloopy” by The McCoys. Funny though in hindsight, he most likely was saying ‘Sloopy’, but as a child, all I heard was ‘Snoopy.’
I also had my own stuffed Snoopy dog that I slept with as a small child, so much so that it eventually lost its round fluffy shape. Over time it was pressed into an oblong, cylindrical shape from being cuddled with or slept on top of multiple times. I still have him.
Ode to Snoopy is an instant snapshot of childhood. Snoopy never actually said a word, but visually communicated every thought and emotion through gesture. It artistically translates his lovable, well-traveled, sophisticated, happy-little life through solid shape, color and the use of heavy black lines symbolizing comic strips of the day.
I need my Snoopy. I admit it.
