Dunigan’s ‘Glorified Truck Stop’ Featured in South x Southeast Photo Galleries ‘Food + Drink + All the Accoutrements'
Glorified Truck Stop (2024) by Joy Dunigan
Archival pigment print, 16×16
We are thrilled to announce that fine art photographer Joy Dunigan’s image Glorified Truck Stop has been selected for inclusion in South x Southeast Photo Gallery’s Food + Drink + All the Accoutrements online photographic exhibition, running from February 10 to March 15, 2025.
'Glorified Truck Stop' was captured spontaneously around midday at Carey Hilliard's Restaurant in Savannah, GA. The image portrays the nostalgic intrigue of a classic Southern restaurant, where wooden booths and pseudo-modern pendant lighting evoke a sense of familiarity. The scene tells a compelling story of two women immersed in their meals, all while tirelessly scratching off lottery tickets—a curious intersection of indulgence and hope. The light and shadows transform this everyday moment into a layered narrative, blending themes of ritual, connection, and the enduring allure of Americana.
Curated by Nancy McCrary, this exhibition explores the intimate connections between food, drink, and life itself—from the hard work of planting and harvesting to the simple joy of sharing meals. It captures the comfort and beauty found in everyday moments, offering a rich tapestry of photographic storytelling.
“Food is love. From the hard work of planting, to the harvest, to the stove, to the table, every bit of effort is made with care and consideration," said McCrary. "The submissions were stunning in their variety, and narrowing them down was no easy task. Each image brought something unique to this collection.”
The exhibition runs online at https://www.sxsegallery.com.
