Photopoint Hosts Arts on the Coast Annual Exhibit for 5th Consecutive Year, June 25 - September 12

Richmond Hill, Ga., August 5, 2020 - For a fifth consecutive year, the Photopoint Gallery is thrilled to be hosting the Arts on the Coast Annual Exhibit. Entitled SPACE, the show features 20 works created by local artists from Richmond Hill, Savannah, St. Simon’s Island, Midway and Pooler. The show opened on June 25th, and is open to the public for viewing through September 12, 2020.

McAllister Elementary School art teacher Brittany Nearhoof captured top honors, winning Best in Show with Sharp End First, a small 8 x 10 acrylic painting inspired by a poem she read that described viewing the marsh from a moving boat at sunrise.

Antoine de Villiers’ Prandihana II

Antoine de Villiers’ 24 x 24 oil painting Prandihana II was awarded second place, and Susan Diaz’s beaded bracelet entitled Lost In Space was third. Billy Harrell’s stunning drone photograph of Ossabaw Island’s southernmost slough entitled Airspace Ossabaw claimed Honorable Mention. A certificate of special recognition was given to aspiring junior artist, 11-year old Alyssa Marquez for her 16 x 20 acrylic painting titled Sloth, the Nebula.

“As in past years, the show has been very well received by the community, but the COVID-19 pandemic definitely prompted us to pause, think and adapt,” says Photopoint Gallery Director and Owner Joy Dunigan. “So many things have changed, but one thing has remained constant — artists are always creating, regardless of what is going on around them. If anything, it’s times like this that urge them to be more creative than ever before. This show is proof that artists are still producing beautiful work despite all the trouble in the world. They just need something to focus on.”

This is why the Photopoint Gallery pressed on with opening the Annual Exhibit to entries and hung the show as it would have in the past. The Gallery altered how the public could access and engage with the show by launching a virtual space on its website with e-commerce capabilities. A consistent social media campaign across all of its channels has increased visibility and remains in progress through the end of the show. Live broadcasts, video galleries and interviews with participating artists are ongoing.

In partnership with the Richmond Hill-Bryan County Chamber of Commerce, Elmgren's Garden Center, Arts on the Coast, and the Gallery will host an official show reception on August 20, 2020. Masks are encouraged, and social distancing measures will be in place for the entire event. The number of individuals admitted to the view the show will be closely monitored to avoid crowding.

There are more shows and events on the horizon for the Photopoint Gallery.

On September 21 thru November 21, the Photopoint Gallery will present High Tide/Low Country — a photography centric show which features fine art images and pieces that incorporate creative photographic processes, traditional, historical and experimental.

Immediately following, the exclusive gallery-curated Holiday Artist Collective will open on December 1, 2020 and run thru January 9, 2021. Ten to fifteen artists are privately invited to participate offering a unique showcase of gifts that range in style, medium, price point and subject matter.
